Newmont Waihi Gold is wholly owned by Newmont Mining Corporation, a leading gold producer with operations and exploration projects on five continents, based in Denver, Colorado, United States of America. Newmont Waihi Gold manages the Martha, Favona and Trio operations in Waihi, New Zealand and has an active exploration programme in the region.


From the 1880s to 1952 the Martha Mine was a world-renowned underground mine. The modern Martha Mine has operated as an open pit since 1987. An average of around 100,000 ounces of gold and 700,000 ounces of silver have been produced annually since 1988. more »

Favona and Trio Underground Mines

Construction of the Favona underground mine began at the end of 2004 and Favona has been producing ore from stopes since September 2006. Access drives to the Trio ore body are currently under construction. Trio comprises the Union, Amaranth and Trio veins. more »
